We’re here for much simpler (and cheaper) things you can do to keep your skin healthy. As yogis, we understand the challenge of maintaining healthy skin when you have to befriend sweats every day. So without further ado, here’s to indulge in your all-encompassing yoga activity and how to keep your skin healthy!

Yogis, here’s how to keep your skin healthy

Wear loose outfit

Here’s what you need to keep in mind: yogis DO sweat. Although not as excessive as other workouts, the combination of heat, sweat, and friction is the very cause of clogged pores. And all these will lead to sweat pimples or even acne breakouts. So what does loose outfit have to do with any of these?

Yoga doesn’t necessarily need tight outfits. Wearing a loose outfit helps prevent sweats from getting trapped between the fabric and your skin surface. It’s important to pay attention to the material you’re wearing in your classes. Thin fabrics with moisture management and abrasion resistance are best to avoid chafing. Sports bras that aren’t too-tight fitting are also a great option. During breathing exercises, your chest is expanding and your body will need more room for you to be able to breathe comfortably. Picking the right outfit not only allows your lungs to breathe properly but also your skin! So, on your next yoga sessions, consider wearing looser yoga clothes.

Clean your face before and after practice

Another thing that can cause acne and sweat pimple is bacteria. To avoid any breakouts, especially in a more sensitive area like your face, clean your face before and after practice. This will prevent any dirt or oil trapped in the pores. Also, it’s important to keep your hair out of your face and maintain its cleanliness. Remember, every part of your body is equally important to look after!

Know your skincare products

It’s not news these days that most products in the store are eco-friendly. This may be a small step to taking care of our planet, but it’s really worth doing. Skincare with natural ingredients is no exception. Opting for natural-based skincare products has some of the coolest benefits. Not only for yourself but also for the environment. Keep in mind that most of the drugstore skincare you can find is induced with corrosive chemicals. This means that it always comes with a side effect both to the user and to the environment where it was produced.

Some of the benefits of using natural-based skincare products are:

  • It’s basically organic food, but for your skin. During its production, the product is free from pesticides or abrasive chemicals.
  • Chemicals used in the common drugstore skincare products may cause more harm to your skin in the long run. It may instead increase sensitivity and worse side effects.
  • Natural based skincare products are free from artificial fragrance. Some of the chemical ingredients you might want to look out for are: sulfate, parabens, and fragrance.

Everyone has a different extent of tolerance to different products, be it naturally based or not. One might find natural skin care products are suitable for them and some others may not. So, it’s important to really pay attention to what your skin needs.

Healthy skin from the inside

Choosing the right skincare is one thing, but clean eating is another. Both remedies are equally important. Clean eating may have a bigger influence on your skin. You really don’t want to make your skincare treatments go to waste without balancing it with clean eating. Next time you’re out shopping for groceries, do pick up the greens and berries!

Other than those, fatty fish is also an option. It’s a great source of Vitamin E. Good examples of fatty fish are mackerel, salmon, and herring. They’re also rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, which is important in finding the answer on how to keep your skin healthy. Other good sources for healthy skin are tomatoes, carrots, walnuts, avocado, green tea, and olive oil. Make sure you bag all these!

Try these poses!

Some yoga poses have benefits for the skin. And they usually revolve around blood flow to the face. These poses are Sarvangasana (shoulder stand), Halasan (the Plough), and Utthanasana (forward bending). While poses like Trikonasana, Bhujangasana, Ustrasana, and Tadasana focuses more on the oxygen flow through the body. Here’s our favorite answer to “How to keep your skin healthy?” Choose these particular poses! But remember to balance it everything out with your food and water intake.

Go for natural oils!

If you’re in for a healthier and eco-friendly option for moisturizer, natural oils can be a great substitute for your conventional ones. Despite its name, applying these oils will not make your face oily. It actually does wonders for your skin. From reducing inflammation, eliminating redness, and even reducing signs of aging. Among the most popular natural oils are coconut oil, rosehip seed oil, and jojoba oil. How about adding them to your skincare list next time?
